Ron has a very large collection of slides of rare and unusual plants from many of the flowering plant families. The photographs are taken of plants in private collections, public gardens and arboretums, and where and whenever possible, in situ. The photogallery features a small sampling of his photographs, and will continue to be updated as we add more, so check back frequently. We will post the date of the last update at the bottom of the list (see below). Each page (indicated below by the plant family name; click on the name to go to the page of photographs) features selected species of the plant family selected.

All of Ron's photographs featured here are scans from his original slide collection. Note that because they are digitized versions of slides, in a few cases the colors are not quite right. We are working on that!

Aizoaceae -Also known as the fig-marigold or ice plant family, species from this family of dicotyledenous plants are commonly known as stone plants or carpet weeds.
Alstroemeriaceae-Many species of this family are commonly known as "Peruvian Lilies"; also includes the vining genus Bomaria; species are from Central and South America.
Araceae-This family of monocotyledonous plants is characterized by a unique inflorescence known as a spadix which is accompanied by and frequently partially enclosed in spathe (leaf like hood).
Aristolochiaceae-A family of flowering plants, also known as the Birthwort family. They are basal dicots (paleodicots) with bizarre flowers growing in the leaf axils that are bilateral or radially symmetrical.
Asclepidaceae-also known as the milkweed family. The alkaloids found in many of the species are make them distasteful to most creatures.
Asteraceae-known as the daisy, aster or sunflower family, this is the second largest family of flowering plants (Orchidaceae is #1!).
Balsaminaceae- A family of dicotyledonous plants, most of which belong to the genus Impatiens. The flowering plants may be annual or perennial and are found throughout temperate and tropical regions, including North America, Asia, Europe and Africa.
Begoniaceae-A family of flowering plants whose species occur in the subtropics and tropics of both the New World and Old World. All but one of the species are in the genus Begonia.
Bignoniaceae-Also known as the trumpet creeper family, most of the species are trees, shrubs or vines. Species from the family are often found as ornamental plants, eg the Calabash tree.
Brassicaceae-The cruicifer, or mustard family. This family includes parents of many well known agricultural species, including cabbage, broccoli, and turnip.
Calycanthaceae-A small family of aromatic deciduous flowering shrubs, known as spicebush or sweetshrub. The flowers are white to red, with spirally arranged tepals.
