Monopodial (Angraecoid and Vandaceous) Orchids

Monopodial orchids are those which have a single continuous growing point, such as Vanda, Phalaenopsis, Aerides, Rhynchostylis, Angraecum, Aerangis, etc. Sympodial orchids form pseudobulbs, and usually need to form another growth to bloom again. Most monopodial orchids come from tropical Asia, Africa, Madagascar, and Australia, although there are a few small genera in the New World. Angraecoid orchids are actually Vandaceous orchids from tropical Africa and Madagascar that are easily recognizable. They are usually white or green, have a spur or nectary, and are fragrant at night. This talk features a broad selection of these popular orchids as well as helpful growing tips.
